Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN)
Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) is the application of SDN technology to WAN connections. Up to now WAN connections have used 20-year-old proprietary and expensive technology plus leased circuits. This results in complex network architectures, delayed branch deployments, limited functionality, application rollouts being inhibited and high administrative overhead.
Bringing SDN to the WAN
SD-WAN abstracts the underlying transport network and moves network control into the cloud to deliver a business-class, secure and feature rich WAN, in turn simplifying wide area networking and delivering a range of benefits including:
- Cost-effective, simpler alternative to WAN connectivity and complex branch networks
- Agility through the implementation of overlay networks that are independent of the underlying transport network and can therefore be quickly adapted as needs change
- Fast provisioning, simplified operations while the time required to manage the network is minimised
- Improved application performance, end to end visibility of cloud based applications and ability to implement per application policy across the wide area network
Iricent’s SD-WAN offering enables service providers and enterprise customers alike to leverage the benefits above with flexible and cost-effective deployment models. Our managed SD WAN provides customers with fast deployment using either dedicated or Telco Cloud based architectures, all of which are available now.
Managed SD WAN from Iricent allows service providers to get to market quickly to address the growing demand from enterprise for more flexibility and visibility in the WAN. Taking advantage of our domain expertise, we work closely with all customers to determine and implement the most appropriate deployment model for their business.
